Music Ministries

There are many ways to be involved in music ministry at St. Joseph and St. Rose music 1

Parish Choir:

Practices are held Thursdays at 7 PM in St. Joseph Church. This ministry involves one practice and one Mass each week. It is important to be able to commit to weekly Thursday rehearsals. Members do not have to know how to read music, but a willingness to learn is important. The choir is open to parishioners of al lages (children must be comfortable with their reading skills). Parishioners are welcomed to join for one season at a time, or for the whole year.

Contemporary choirs:

There are two guitar ensembles. A keyboardist would be most welcomed in this ministry, as well as voices and other instrumentalists. Instruments already involved include acoustic guitars, electric bass guitars, drums, recorder, violin and flute. We also have a set of congas in need of a player!.

 Spanish music ministry

Cantors and accompanists are needed to provide music for the 2 PM Sunday Spanish mass. Singers and instrumentalists are welcomed.

 Christmas and Triduum:

Join the ranks of the Parish Choir during the weeks of Advent and Lent to help us prepare for Christmas and the Triduum. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays at 7 PM. The choir will sing at the Christmas Midnight Mass, and for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday..

Cantors/psalmists:

Lead the assembly in song throughout the Mass. Lead us in the praying of the psalm during the Liturgy of the Word. Practices are arranged with the accompanist. (Cantors do not have to belong to one of the choirs and do not sing every week end.) You will be supported in this ministry by ongoing formation opportunities.

Psalmists for the children:

Lead our assemblies of young children in the singing of the psalm during the Liturgy of the Word for Children. Psalmists are needed at both churches. Currently the Liturgy of the Word for Children is scheduled at the 9:30 Masses. Practices are held twice a month. This is a good way for youth (and adults!) to begin in the ministry of Psalmist.

.Keyboardists (piano or organ):

Keyboardists are needed for every mass, at St. Joseph and at St. Rose. St. Rose has a two-manual Allen Protégé organ and St. Joseph has a three manual Allen Renaissance organ. In addition, St Joseph has a grand piano.

Guitarists:

Accompany the singing at Mass, with one of the contemporary ensembles.

Instrumentalists

Enhance our liturgies by adding to the singing, and providing preludes, postludes, or music for the preparation of the gifts.

Funerals:

Organists and cantors are in short supply for funerals. This is a good ministry for people who are available during the day on week days.

Baptisms:

Cantors and accompanists are needed to provide music for baptisms outside of Mass, once a month at St. Rose, and once a month at St. Joseph.
